Is a cycling training camp right for you?

Every year, thousands of cyclists consider booking a training camp. Most of them spend weeks researching, comparing, hesitating. Some book. Many don't. And the ones who don't usually fall into one of two camps, they weren't sure if they were good enough, or they weren't sure if it was worth the money.

We're going to answer both questions honestly.

What a cycling training camp actually is
A training camp is not a cycling holiday. It's not a group tour with some nice roads and a hotel dinner at the end. It's a structured week of riding, recovering, and improving, designed to give you more progress in seven days than you'd typically make in three months of training at home.

At Sa Calobra Cycling Club, that means 4 to 6 hours on the bike every day, on some of the most iconic roads in the world. It means a sports massage after every ride, power data analysis every evening, and a private chef cooking every meal around your training needs. It means your bike is clean and ready every morning before you wake up.
It's demanding. That's the point.

Are you good enough?

This is the question we get asked more than any other. And the honest answer is: probably yes, if you train regularly.

We welcome riders from 2.6 w/kg to 5.4 w/kg. We've had riders aged 19 to 70. We've had complete beginners to cycling camps and riders on their tenth visit. What they all have in common is that they train consistently, take their cycling seriously, and show up ready to work.

You don't need to be fast. You need to be fit enough to ride 90km on hilly terrain and motivated enough to do it again the next day. If that sounds like you, you're good enough.

If you're not sure, send us a message and we'll tell you honestly. We'd rather turn someone away than have them struggle through a week that wasn't right for them.

Is it worth the money?

Break it down and the answer becomes obvious.

A week at SCCC includes accommodation for 7 nights, all meals cooked by a private chef, airport transfers both ways, a carbon bike with powermeter and Wahoo computer, 6 sports massages, daily coaching sessions with power data analysis, full road support on every ride, professional photography and a 4K drone video of your week, and a cycling kit worth €200. We charge from €1,940...

Beyond the numbers, riders consistently tell us they make more progress in one week at camp than in an entire season of training at home. That's not marketing. That's what happens when you combine volume, structure, recovery, and coaching for seven consecutive days.

Who a camp is not right for

We'll be direct about this too.

If you're looking for a relaxed week with some casual cycling and beautiful scenery, we're probably not the right fit. Our camps are challenging by design. The routes are demanding, the days are long, and the expectation is that you come prepared and ready to push yourself.

If you haven't been riding consistently in the months before camp, you'll struggle. That's why we send every rider a 14-week training plan before they arrive.

And if you're expecting a hotel experience with optional cycling, this isn't that. It's a team camp. You live together, eat together, ride together. That's what makes it work.

The one question worth asking yourself

Not "am I good enough?" or "can I afford it?" but this:
When was the last time you did something that genuinely made you a better cyclist?

If the answer is a long time ago, or never, a training camp might be exactly what you need.
